For as far back as I can remember I've always held a camera. The first camera I actually owned was an Instamatic 25. Some people thought I took unusual photos, photos of stems of flowers through vases...

1978. Click. A decisive photo: 2 female friends in a wood, slightly back-lit, using highly sensitive film, a coloured stocking in front of the lens for a blurred effect - this was the era of Sarah Moon. I took the decision to live my passion: I would become a photographer. Two photographers really left their mark on me more particularly: Maisel and Roïter, forerunners in their approach, in their conception of image. And both were in love with colour.

1981.  I was independent, I worked for various companies, essentially in construction, including Bouygues. Its founder, Francis Bouygues, had decided to recruit a young photographer to develop the corporate image of his business. A great challenge I was only too keen to accept.  I saw it grow. I had to assert my vision, my approach and to model the image.  At that time, Bouygues was very different: in a world of engineers I was the only artist.  I have been cultivating this difference for 20 years.

Throughout my travels I took photos of skies from all over the world. I loved this work with colour but I was never totally satisfied as I never considered them complete although I did exhibit a few. For years, I was unable to take one single photo. I had nothing to say. There I was like a painter with no inspiration in front of his canvas or like a writer staring numbly at his blank page.  Frustrating times. Imbalanced times. As the days passed the reality of actually taking any photos at all became more and more remote. Now when I look back, I know it was necessary to walk that painful path, after all, others faced the same strain.

2005.  Steni Valla, a small port in the Alonnisos Island, Greece.  Early morning is my favourite time. I always get up early. I enjoy these first hours of the day, the connivance, the calm, the serenity.  As I was walking on the wharf I suddenly saw colour, movement being shaped and unshaped, transformed. An astonishment followed by a sudden craving, an imperious demand to take photos, right there.  Leaving behind the frustration, the imbalance that I had endured during the previous years, I was seized by happiness and embraced it fully. It was like going back to my roots, the source of my creativity, a return to my balance and true self.

Today, I want colour, colour and more colour. I am hungry for it, I can't get enough of it. I have become my pictures and they have become me. They are as close as I can get to what I dreamed of: colour and this movement, the gesture of the painter that I was sorely missing; abstraction, with its loss of marks which I am hungry for.

On this website you can see some of the photos, which I took - as always - without filter without modification of chromia. These are my colours. Each photo is printed, in a unique set, on paper Photorag 308 g glued to a Dibond type sheet of 2 mm.
